The objective of this assignment was to provide the necessary capacity building and guide the EAPP through an implementation of the new market framework for ‘shadow market’ operations.

The assignment involved facilitation of market study tours for learning and benchmarking similar markets to EAPP.

The consultant team members used their extensive knowledge of international power market designs and SAPP market trading platform, combined with their in-depth knowledge of SAPP and the status and development of EAPP, to provide a fit-for-purpose capacity building and simulation platform for EAPP, allowing for both the development of EAPP as a region and the further integration with other Africa power pools.

The scope of the project covered:

  • Assessment of existing EAPP reports, studies and other background information.
  • Scope analysis for the market simulations.
  • Capacity building seminars to EAPP (5 seminars, 5 days each).
  • Market modelling and actual simulation (shadow market).
  • Study tours (Europe and SAPP).
