The Climate Resilient Infrastructure Development Facility (CRIDF) identified the opportunity to deliver a user-friendly, graphically driven, SADC regionalised long-term energy planning and scenario tool, specifically focussed on climatic and economic impacts in the region.

Previous and intended integrated resource and master planning studies have been undertaken, or are underway, and the intention of this project was to build and enhance on the outputs of these studies, specifically sustainable water utilisation, climatic influences on energy and demand with regards to future temperatures, as well as the economic modelling and feedback into the planning scenarios (e.g. price elasticities and the knock-on effect into country and regional economic performances.

Enerweb developed a visually interactive optimisation tool, allowing economic and climatic scenarios to be investigated, building on the established local and regional planning scenarios, and with climate and economic feedback loops built into the least cost planning optimiser.
